Jacquard Dress, Tall Boots and Stockholm

Scandinavia, where do I even begin?

The last 10 days had gone past like a whirlwind. To be honest my brain feels scrambled right at this moment trying to recall an overwhelming amount of details of our experiences in that side of the world. Looking back, we must have been crazy to tackle 4 cities in 3 countries in such a limited time frame (not to mention that both of us are rather keen ‘sight-see-ers’) but we made things work somehow.

If you asked me which city out of the 4 (Helsinki-Stockholm-Oslo-Bergen) was a favourite of mine? I would have to say that Stockholm, also known as Venice of the North truly stole my heart in every single way. Ok, maybe not so much the high cost of living but the beautiful architecture, history, culture, canals, and their ways of thinking when it comes to fashion and interior design were nothing short of wonderful. I adore this city for its modern yet relaxed vibes and I thought I could hear it enticing me to go back soon (one can always dream)!

When I was packing my suitcase for this holiday, Mr M had told me to take 2 dinner dresses with me. That got me super excited because it sounded like he had arranged for not only 1 but 2 promising night outs together. My mom had also just given me a beautiful jacquard dress from Warehouse that I couldn’t wait to put on. What more can I say? I like the sound of a happy ‘co-incidence’!

That surprise dinner on our first night in Stockholm had turned out to be so much more than I could ever ask for. Mr M had very generously taken me to Restaurant Frantzen, named as 2013 12th best restaurant in the world by San Pellegrino. He had also arranged for us to sit at the chef’s table where all the plating magic happened right before our eyes. Chatting with the chefs while savouring their extraordinary efforts was a truly special, once in a lifetime experience. I felt so honoured and blessed to be able to share those rare moments with such a wonderful person in my life.

After dinner we found ourselves at Fotografiska, deemed as one of the world’s largest meeting places for contemporary photography. This photo was taken at the restaurant in the building at quarter to 11pm. We were surely thankful for the opportunities that the long days had provided us with and the amazing vantage point!

The dress was made with a thick and slightly stiff material and was perfect for that chilly night. I had forgotten to bring my high waisted belt so I had to improvise with a long one. I paired my outfit very simply with black boots that I lugged with me and my neon envelope clutch. I’m still a little stuck in the neon phase you see.

We wandered around the back alleyways near our ancient boutique hotel and I’m glad I was practical enough to leave my heels behind.

So much more to share! Do watch this space.

  1. Wow, what gorgeous picturse! What camera/lens do you use? And I’ve done that before, tackling different countries/cities in a short amount. It gets kinda tiring and I feel like you don’t fully get to enjoy!

Anyway, great blog! Would you like to follow each other?

    • Mr M here

If I have the space available, I like to travel with a Canon 5D Mk III. For this series, I knew I’d need to make the most of what little light would be available. Even with the sun setting so late, I decided to use the 85mm f1.2L. I find that the perspective and large aperture work well for these situations.

Now if only that combination wasn’t so weighty…
